Deco City Discoverer operate a two hour full commentary Voyage of Discovery Tour departing from the Napier i-Site for every cruise ship arriving in Napier during the cruise season. In our iconic Art Deco buses we take in the scenic Marine Parade then heading out along the coast road to view Cape Kidnappers and the Ātea a Rangi Star Compass on the edge of the coast before turning inland at Awatoto. We travel through the fertile area of Meeanee passing orchards, vineyards and The Old Church on our way to The Silky Oak Chocolate Company. on the edge of the coast
We then wander through the suburbs of Taradale where we see the Art Deco McDonalds building and then on to Greenmeadows passing the historic Church Road Winery and then a visit to the Mission Estate Winery (fifteen min stop), here you may have a sample of their fine wines, purchase a few bottles and take in the great view from the gardens looking over Napier City. We the head towards Westshore travelling over some the over 4000 hectares of land that came out of the sea during the 1931 earthquake.
We then travel to the northern coast of the city through the seaside suburb of Westshore and on to historic West Quay and Ahuriri the original port of Napier. We make a stop off at the National Tobacco Building (photo stop) we view the ornate exterior of one of the most photographed Art Deco Buildings in Napier.
We then head in to the vibrant City Centre and drive through the streets of the Art Deco Capital of the World. We take in several of the surviving buildings and view many of the beautiful Art Deco buildings built in the aftermath of the devastating 1931 earthquake. We then return to the Marine Parade and the i-Site bus stop in plenty of time for your shuttle bus back to your ship at Napier Port.
